有一道驰名海外的中国名菜叫 “左宗棠鸡”，虽然其以湖南名将左宗棠的名字来命名，事实上与他本人没有太大关联，发明人是民国时期的彭长贵。

左宗棠是清末著名将领，曾任浙江巡抚、陕甘总督、两江总督、闽浙总督等职。左宗棠一生爱吃鸡，喜欢把鸡炸得香酥酥地吃。相传左宗棠每次带兵打了胜仗，他都要烹鸡犒劳三军。因为他率部收复新疆名震海内外，左宗棠由此成为在西方有影响力和威慑力的中国人，“左宗棠鸡”也就流传到了海外，成为了中国菜的代表菜之一。

Zuo Zongtang was a prominent military leader in the late Qing Dynasty, holding various positions such as Zhejiang governor, Shaanxi-Gansu governor, governor of the Jiangnan and Jiangxi provinces, and governor of Fujian-Zhejiang. Throughout his life, Zuo Zongtang had a fondness for chicken, especially enjoying it when fried to a crispy and fragrant texture. Legend has it that every time Zuo Zongtang led his troops to victory, he would celebrate by preparing chicken to reward the soldiers. Due to his military successes, particularly in reclaiming Xinjiang, Zuo Zongtang gained influence and deterrence in the Western world, becoming an influential and formidable figure among the Chinese. Consequently, "Zuo Zongtang Chicken" spread overseas and became one of the representative dishes of Chinese cuisine.
