When you're in Nanning it would be a pity not to try the local food specialties: Rice wrapped in lotus leaf (Heye mifan) and Ali dog hotpot (Ali gourou huoguo) are the must in summer and autumn respectively. So close to Vietnam, Vietnamese food, such as noodles, soups and burgers are also popular.

Nanning snacks have a long history and have various kinds. Emperor Qianlong Pot-Boiled Beef Flour, Shuang Ji Yushengjidi Gruel, Zeng's big Zong with Meat and Green Beans, Li Zifan Sticky Rice Dumpling and Chengxiang Garden Tea House are jointly called "Five Brave Generals" of Nanning Snacks.

邕城的风味小吃历史悠久,种类繁多。乾隆皇帝锅烧牛杂粉,爽记鱼生及第粥、曾某绿豆大肉棕、李子凡的糯米水圆、成香园茶居并称邕城“五虎将”。“到新疆吃烤羊肉串,来南宁不忘逛酸野滩”夸的是南宁的酸野;“久闻荷叶饭,吃后口留香,今日特来品,果然不虚传”,赞的是荷香园的荷叶米饭”;“游邕不吃谟觞粥,神仙返去也顿足”说的是美味的粥品。
夏令佳品当属鲜莲冬瓜盅,冬令进补首选“阿里”狗肉。豆蓉糯饭供你“食过早”,吮田螺要去夜市摊。“林有记”、“粉角丸”......这些不仅仅是驰名的招牌,更是一段历史的见证。
老友面:
这是有着百年历史的面食。
据说,一老翁每天都光顾周记茶馆喝茶,有一天因感冒没有去茶馆,周记老板便以精制面条,佐以爆香的蒜末、豆豉、辣椒、酸笋 、牛肉末、胡椒粉等,煮成热面条一碗,送予这位老友吃。老翁吃后出了一身汗,病状减轻,故由此而得“老友面”之名。
老友面食之开胃驱寒,深受食客欢迎而经久不衰。
八仙粉:
相传是清宫食谱之一,因其配有山珍、海味、时鲜八味以上,味道相异相辅,如“八仙过海,各显神通”,故而得名。八仙粉以鲜滑清爽为特点。
干捞粉:
把米浆蒸熟后切成条形,拌以调制好的叉烧、肉末、葱花、炸花生、酱料、香油等即可食用。
特点是香、酸、脆、甜、咸适度,食而不腻。
卷筒粉:
用磨成的民浆放进托盘摊成一张薄饼,撒一些肉末、葱花在上面,蒸熟后卷成卷即可上碟,佐以酱料、香油等拌以食用。
八宝饭:
将糯米泡湿,拌以食用油、绿豆、百合、莲子、白果、蜜枣、山黄皮、冬瓜糖等近十种清补原料,蒸熟即成。以其香溢软滑,甜而不腻著称。
粥品:
南宁人早餐爱吃粥,粥也有十几个品种之多,有瘦肉粥、猪红粥、鱼片粥、红豆粥、皮蛋粥、田鸡粥等。特点是香热鲜美。
酸品:
南宁方言叫“酸野”。南宁有句俗话称“行人难过酸野摊”,即将“酸野”描述得维妙维俏。制作是采用当地物产木瓜、萝卜、黄瓜、莲藕、椰菜、菠萝等时令果蔬,配以酸醋、辣椒、白糖等腌制而成。吃起来酸、甜、香、辣味味俱到,脆爽可口,生津开胃。
